Our Facility
From the very start, Barkingham’s 2+-acre site has been planned and developed as a pet boarding, grooming, and training center. Everything has been arranged for the comfort and convenience of our guests and their people, from the convenient and spacious entry to the extensive exercise runs. Site development work included extensive ground-level build-up and drainage for the training fields and dog runs which keeps them usable even in rainy periods. Read more about Barkingham’s history.
Entry Area
The entry area of Barkingham’s building includes space for four grooming stations and has eight (8) large, dog suites, a large cattery; retail sales displays, and an employee lounge area.
Resident Manager
The resident manager lives in a one-bedroom apartment built into the main kennel building. The resident manager (RM) is a kennel technician trained in both animal behavior, and in the specific operations of Barkingham. The RM sees to the well-being of the animals and the security of the building and grounds during the hours when the office is closed.
Exercise Runs
Very large exercise runs are adjacent to the building provide adequate space for all the dogs to get lots of exercise during the day, including optional, extra play-time sessions.
Training Fields
The training fields at Barkingham are regulation size and are separated from the kennel area for easy, direct customer access. The fields have floodlights for our nighttime obedience and agility courses. These fenced-in, grassy areas are graded and have drainage, to provide the best possible conditions during wet periods. Complete courses with equipment appropriate for standard agility and jumpers with weaves are used for training and are available for practice to qualified renters.
Kennel
Barkingham’s kennel building is bright and airy, built to ABKA standards, air-conditioned for the summer, and heated in the winter. All the kennels are indoors and have privacy sidewalls and impervious, odor-resistant construction.

The grooming area has a separate Hydrosurge™ tub room, a drying room, and a grooming room.
The Management and Ownership
Candi has more than 25 years of experience in animal care as an owner, breeder, and trainer of dogs, cats, birds, and horses.
Candi is a dog trainer, certified by the animal training and behavior associates for obedience training. She was employed for several years by Petco national pet stores. She has competed in sanctioned trials for dog obedience and agility, where she has won many blue ribbons and placed a number of obedience and agility titles on our dogs. Candi is also a breeder of Gemini Champion Golden Retrievers, offering top quality, health-test cleared goldens with excellent pedigrees, as pets, to good homes. Candi and her husband have shown their goldens in breed rings throughout the Southeast. Most recently, Candi has been employed in the boarding kennel business. We have brought the best of all that we learned over the years to the building of a state-of-the-art facility.
